Hammond and Fielding discussed why it’s “unbelieveable” to work with the culinary legend on the show

The hosts also share whether Lawson and Paul Hollywood disagree while filming

Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding are big fans of Nigella Lawson.

TheGreat British Baking Showhosts gave a behind-the-scenes look into the new judge’s habits on the show, which comes out with a new season on Friday, Sept. 25, in an episode of the Dish podcast on Wednesday, Sept. 23.

Host Nick Grimshaw asked the duo how it is working with the celebrity chef.

“Unbelievable,” Hammond replied. “She is so beautiful.”

“Everyone just stops in their tracks and looks,” she said. “It hurts your eyes a little bit,” Fielding joked.

Hammond added that the British culinary icon is “so lovely” and “really nice,” joking that she watched Lawson in makeup for the show to get her beauty tips.

Fielding then revealed one unique thing that Lawson does when the hosts and judges aren’t in the famed baking tent.

“We have these little sort of shepherd’s huts that we all have, and they face each other, and you can just see Nigella in her shepherd’s hut reading,” he said.

He continued, “She’s got a stack of books, and she sort of lies like Cleopatra would lie.”

“On a chaise lounge,” Hammond said.

“Chaise lounge,” Fielding agreed. “And sometimes as you’re walking by, she summons you in, and you sort of kneel down at her feet because she lies across the whole thing, so there’s nowhere to sit.”

He joked that he felt “like a child in assembly.”

“She’s amazing,” he added of Lawson.

Hammond shared that the new judge brought cheeses and breads for the crew, along with a salted granola.

Dish host Angela Hartnett asked the pair whether Lawson and fellow judge Paul Hollywood, who has been on the show since its inception, “agree on most stuff.”

“Sometimes they don’t agree, and it’s quite exciting,” Fielding replied, adding later that it’s “sparky when they don’t agree.”

“And that’s okay, to have different opinions,” Hammond pointed out. “I love the whole dynamic of it.”

Fielding added that the two chefs have “slightly different tastes,” with Lawson preferring more savory dishes and Hollywood having a bigger sweet tooth.

“They always end up resolving it and coming together,” he said.

Lawson and Hollywood shared in an interview with The Guardian published on Sept. 18 that they underwent an “unofficial” chemistry test at a U.K. Channel 4 event before Lawson was cast on the show.

“We chatted for 10 minutes and had a great time, didn’t we?” Lawson said. “I knew instantly it was going to work. It surprised even us, I think, how well we hit it off. It was lucky that we did get on. Can you imagine if we didn’t? I bet Paul would have said so!”

Hollywood told the outlet it was “lovely” to have Lawson join the show in the role previously held by Prue Leith, 86, and Mary Berry, 91.

“I’ve always been a big fan and she fitted in beautifully – not just with me but with the whole team,” he said. “She picked up the Bake Off vibe straight away. It was pretty seamless, actually.”

Lawson first revealed she was joining the show in an Instagram post earlier this year, saying she was “uncharacteristically rather lost for words.”

“Of course it’s daunting to be following in the footsteps of Prue Leith and Mary Berry before her, great dames both, but I’m also bubbling with excitement,” she said.

“The Great British Bake Off is more than a television programme, it’s a National Treasure – and it’s a huge honour to be entrusted with it,” she added. “I’m just thrilled to be joining the team and all the new bakers to come. I wish the marvelous Prue all the best, and am giddily grateful for the opportunity!”

Collection 14 of The Great British Baking Showpremieres for U.S. audiences on Netflix on Friday, Sept. 25, after debuting as The Great British Bake-Off in the U.K. on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
