The Gossip Girl alum is raising four children with his wife, Domino Kirke. After getting married in 2017, Badgley became a stepdad to Kirke’s son, Cassius, whom she shares with her ex, Morgan O'Kane.

Three years later, in August 2020, the couple welcomed their first child together, a son. In late summer 2025, the pair welcomed identical twin boys.

During an appearance on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast in November 2025, the actor called the experience of having twins “insane compared to one,” joking that by contrast, “one is like zero.”

Here’s everything to know about Penn Badgley’s kids.

Prior to welcoming three sons together, Badgley and Kirke experienced two miscarriages "in a row."

In February 2020, Kirke announced her pregnancy in a since-deleted Instagram post. After miscarrying twice, she and Badgley were “ready to call it,” she wrote. “I stopped trusting my body and started to accept the fact that I was done.”

Badgley has also been open about the pain of losing two pregnancies. In his 2025 book, Crushmore: Essays on Love, Loss, and Coming-of-Age, the actor wrote about the emotional toll of the experience, sharing that the couple almost split as a result. Ultimately, though, it only made them stronger.

“That was a real inflection point — one of the greatest of my life and my wife’s,” Badgley said during a November 2025 appearance on the Totally Booked with Zibby podcast. “We did near a separation. And of course, we didn’t give into the gravity of that, the entropy of that. And here we are with three biological children since.”

He went on to call parenting “the most immeasurable thing in existence,” adding that "it’s phenomenal how much care children take.”

Badgley and Kirke welcomed their first child together on Aug. 10, 2020. The following month, the couple announced the news of their baby boy in a since-deleted Instagram post.

“His heart shaped home,” Kirke wrote alongside a photo of her placenta.

In October, Kirke shared the first photo of their son in a sweet Instagram post. In the photo, which has since been deleted, Badgley gazes down at the infant lovingly.

In February 2025, Badgley and Kirke announced that they were expecting twins.

“Babies #3 and #4 coming this Summer! Talk about a PLOT TWIST!” Kirke wrote on a since-deleted Instagram post. “Spontaneous twins are beyond magical. We are stunned. We are in awe. Can’t think of anyone else I’d rather be on this ride with.”

The couple welcomed their twin boys sometime in late summer, but they didn’t announce the news until September 2025, when Badgley shared an Instagram video.

“Interrupting twin paternity leave to announce a live event @podcrushed at @symphonyspace Oct 14 NYC supporting the release of our book CRUSHMORE. Truly proud of this one,” he wrote in the caption.

In the clip, Badgley confirms that he’s on paternity leave, whispering, “There’s tiny little baby feet right there,” before showing a glimpse of one of his newborn’s feet. “I don’t want to wake them up," he added.

The following day, Kirke shared a snapshot of their twins on Instagram. “...and then there were four 😶‍🌫️🤪🤯🥰,” she wrote alongside a photo of her with the twin boys asleep on her chest.

Speaking about his twins during his November 2025 appearance on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, Badgley confirmed that the identical twins really do look exactly alike.

“Well in the very beginning it was very easy to tell them apart. And it's still for us easy,” he said. “But the bigger they get, the more they grow. They’re becoming more and more identical.”

Before meeting Badgley, Kirke welcomed a son named Cassius with her ex, musician Morgan O'Kane.

As a result, Badgley has had to step into "two different kinds of parental roles."

“I have an interesting situation where I have a biological son and a stepson,” he said during a March 2024 interview with The New York Times’ Modern Love podcast. “And my stepson is — his father is very much in his life. So his father is his father, and I’m something else.”

His children's names are unique, but secret for now

Badgley and Kirke have kept their kids out of the spotlight, having only shared a handful of photos on social media and deciding to keep their names private.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in May 2025, the You star actually took the opportunity to clear up the misinformation about his oldest son’s moniker.

“This is a very weird thing to say, but ... his name is not James,” he told host Jimmy Fallon. “His name, because he's 4, will remain undisclosed for as long as we can manage."

In November 2025, Badgley discussed the names of his twins on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast.

“Their names are a sound bite. I'm not going to share them yet. In years to come, I'm sure I will,” he said.

He explained that their names are unexpected — and uncommon. “Now I'm drawing attention to it,” he joked, adding, “Their names are something.”

Badgley has shared his approach to parenting

While Badgley has opted to keep his kids out of the spotlight, the actor has been open about his experience with parenthood.

“Becoming a father — of sons — has given me, in some way, a lot of clarity,” he told Vogue Adria in October 2025. “Being a father is fun and joyful, deeply meaningful and rewarding, when you can be present. Easy to say, hard to do.”

In his Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast interview, Badgley reiterated the importance of being a present and engaged father. He shared that the couple have a night nurse who assists them with the twins half of the time.

The actor called the help “merciful” before adding that it comes with its own set of challenges.

“We’re hands-on parents,” he said. “But the more kids we have, the more we understand. It's like we really want to be doing all of the parenting things and then it's the other stuff that we need help with, you know. So it’s hard to find that person."

Kirke has also spoken about her parenting philosophy.

“We can’t overcompensate for what we didn’t get without it somehow backfiring,” she said in a May 2025 interview with LadyGunn. “Meeting my kids where they are and doing my own inner work is the only way I can show up fully for my family. It’s not up to them to fill in my holes.”
