Anne Hathaway has become one of the most popular names in Hollywood. But success came with a price for the actress. While Hathaway is currently making headlines for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, she originally won hearts with another princess role.

Her 2001 Disney comedy The Princess Diaries, where she debuted as the awkward teen princess, became her shot to stardom. However, despite her career’s success, Hathaway has revealed that behind the scenes of the film was far less fairytale-like.

Anne Hathaway Opens Up About Body Image Pressures Early in Her Career

Speaking with Allure back in 2019, Anne Hathaway revealed she was just 16 when she auditioned for the Disney movie, The Princess Diaries.

After beating out several other actresses for the titular role of Mia Thermopolis, Hathaway mentioned the comments she received after landing the role were heartbreaking in retrospect.

“At 16 years old, it was ‘Congratulations, you have the part,’ ‘I’m not saying you need to lose weight. I’m just saying don’t gain weight.’ Which of course means you need to lose weight,” she said.

Further, during her conversation with the publication, Hathaway also opened up about filming the Netflix movie The Last Thing He Wanted.

The actress revealed how the costume designer had specific requests regarding her menstrual cycle. Hathaway said: “I have Ane Crabtree asking me what my body does on my moon — which I realized meant my period — so she can make adjustments for me. It was just this beautiful thing.”

She added, “I am cautious in my praise of how Hollywood is shifting. There is so much more body inclusivity — which is great! — but the thin thing is definitely still the centralized ‘normal’ expectation.”

Anne Hathaway is Expecting Her Third Child With Adam Shulman

Amid ongoing conversations about body image in Hollywood, Anne Hathaway is currently expecting her third child with her husband, Adam Shulman.

She recently appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers on July 13, where the talk show host wasted no time asking her about the pregnancy. The actress claimed she and her husband were both “shocked” upon learning about her successful pregnancy at age 43.

“It’s amazing. I mean, we knew what we were doing,” Hathaway joked. “But we were so shocked it worked.”

The actress added, “We were just so shocked it went this way. So we’re calling this one our buzzer-beater.” Hathaway and Shulman have been together since 2008, and married in 2012. The couple share two sons and are now expecting their third child.
