Matt Dinniman is receiving major attention as his most popular sci-fi novel continues to earn recognition from readers across genres.
His 2020 book Dungeon Crawler Carl now sits at No. 16 on Goodreads' list of the "Most Read Books This Month in the United States." The novel had 28,004 readers on the platform in just a month and an average rating of 4.47 from more than 324,000 ratings.
Published in 2020, Dungeon Crawler Carl follows Coast Guard veteran Carl and his ex-girlfriend's cat, Princess Donut, as they try to survive a deadly, video game-like dungeon that is staged as a reality show for a galaxy-wide audience. Its mix of chaos, humor and high-stakes survival helped instantly attract readers.
The book's rising popularity is only a piece of a much larger success story for Dinniman. The writer and artist from Gig Harbor, Washington, has written an entire Dungeon Crawler Carl series, and all seven published installments have become New York Timesbestsellers.
The Wall Street Journal described the series as "[A] comically cosmic adventure series…often laugh-out-loud funny…Grind your way toward dungeon mastery alongside Carl and Princess Donut."

Despite already achieving huge success, Dinniman is nowhere near done with the series. He plans to release 10 installments in total, and the eighth is currently on the way. With each book comes a more devoted audience that has followed Carl and Princess Donut through each level of the dungeon, adding to a series that has already proven its ability to keep readers coming back.
Dinniman has also continued his work outside of that saga, using his current momentum to put his other work on the map. His recent standalone novel Operation Bounce House was promoted by the publisher as an instant New York Times bestseller.
With its strong showing on Goodreads and steady growth in readership, Dungeon Crawler Carl is proving it has lasting appeal beyond its initial release. As the series continues to reach new audiences, its latest recognition highlights its firm place among today's most widely read titles, with readers continuing to drive its momentum forward.
