An hour-long Bewitched series is reportedly in the early stages of development at Fox

Erin Murphy is ready to make some magic happen with Fox.

The former child actress, best known for playing Tabitha Stephens in Bewitched from 1966 to 1972, recently discussed Fox's potential reboot of the beloved ABC sitcom in an interview with New Idea. Murphy, now 61, revealed that she would love to be part of the project.

"If they asked me to appear on the show, absolutely I would! I’d love to be included in some way, and I know fans of the original Bewitched would enjoy that fun reference to the past," she said.

Murphy, who acted in over 100 episodes of the original, added that she's "excited" about the possibility of a new Bewitched and also shared that she's a friend of the reboot's writer.

Deadline first reported that development on a hour-long modern version of Bewitched was underway at Fox in November 2025. The potential series is a co-production between Sony TV and Fox Entertainment and is being led by writer/executive producer Judalina Neira (Daisy Jones and the Six) and executive producer Doug Robinson.

Per Deadline, the fresh take on the comedy would be "heartfelt," and feature human Darrin and witch Samantha navigating "disapproving parents" and "cultural clashes" as they "bridge the divides between their families and worlds." The show has not received an official pickup from Fox and appears to still be in the early development stage.

The original Bewitched ran for eight seasons from 1964-1972 on ABC, and starred Elizabeth Montgomery as powerful witch Samantha and Dick York as her human ad executive husband Darrin. York left the series in 1969 due to a chronic back injury and was replaced by Dick Sargent in the final seasons.

Murphy told New Idea that although she was quite young when she played the witchy tot Tabitha, she has fond memories of her time on the show. " I recall most of my six years on the show with great clarity,” she said. “People wonder how could I remember anything as I was so young, but I have great recollections of most of it. As it was a series with magic, it was like Disneyland for a wide-eyed kid like me."

The mother of six added that Montgomery “was so kind and so beautiful." She told the outlet, “When she died of colorectal cancer in 1995, it was devastating. She was like my second mum.”

There have been a number of attempts to reboot Bewitched for TV over the years, but none of them have made it to air. Additionally, a short-lived spinoff focused on an older Tabitha played by Lisa Hartman Black aired for 11 episodes on ABC in 1977. The series was also given the big screen treatment in a 2005 movie starring Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell, which received mixed reviews.
