Can Federico Maranges allow Seahawks to trade Olu Oluwatimi?
Many have projected the Seattle Seahawksto trade center Olu Oluwatimi during the 2026 offseason, prior to the final roster cutdown on Sunday, August 31. One part of this equation could be one of the most unique players on the roster, though- third center and product of the International Player Pathway (IPP) program, Federico Maranges.
The IPP allows NFL teams an extra roster spot for a player outside the U.S. and Canada on the practice squad which can be elevated three times per season. Mike Macdonald and the Seahawks commonly reference "The 70" when referring to the practice squad's 17 players tacking on to the 53-man active roster. The 17th spot is reserved for the IPP player.

The Seahawks have Maranges as their player here but don't have any other eligible players for this spot, meaning there's an extremely low chance Maranges doesn't fill it for them this season. The rules also mention that teams are permitted to elevate their IPP player to its active roster up to three times during the season without it counting towards the team's gameday roster. This means Maranges could provide the Seahawks a free roster spot at center when elevated.
Starting Center Jalen Sundell has an injury history, and Oluwatimi's biggest ability as a clear backup is availability- but this could be a creative way for the Seahawks to shuffle their roster. The IPP spot wouldn't allow Maranges to graduate to the 53-man and still be held as the IPP player, but he could at least provide a three-week buffer for the team to find another backup center if anything were to occur with Sundell.
