Elizabeth Banks embraced an unexpected color for her latest transformation.
In the trailer for her new movie DreamQuil, the 52-year-old actress appeared with striking red-orange hair styled in a short, wavy bob.
She topped off her look with bold red lipstick and a matching glossy red manicure.

Per the film’s official synopsis, Banks plays Carol, “a dissatisfied mother, struggling to find connection within her marriage to Gary and her child…Carol leaps at the chance to get her life back on track by signing up for ‘DreamQuil,’ an avant-garde digital wellness retreat.”
The synopsis continued, “When Carol returns home, however, she discovers her family has been living with ‘Carol 2,’ a robot the corporation designed to help in her absence, and things take a mysterious and sinister turn.”
In a March interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Hunger Games actress discussed the film, directed by Alex Prager. Additional cast members include Kathryn Newton, Juliette Lewis, John C. Reilly, and Sofia Boutella.

“What I love about [Prager’s] aesthetic is that you really can’t pinpoint the [era] depending on hair, makeup, visual style,” Banks said. “When people ask me, ‘Is this in the future? In the past?’ it’s sort of like, ‘It’s either!’ You don’t know where you are or when you are.”
She also teased what viewers can expect from her robot doppelganger.
“The robot version of myself has a better body and a bigger booty and better hair and shinier lips, and all of that made me walk a different way, stand a different way,” Banks said. “I wanted it to be super weird. How do I make it something that’s super awkward but believable? It was a fine line to walk the whole time we were filming.”

The red hair makeover was a sharp contrast to Banks’s most recent public appearance on September 12, when she attended the US Open with her usual blond locks styled in a super-short bob.
DreamQuil hits theaters on October 16.
