Illinois transportation company announces mass layoffs

An Illinois transportation company is laying off workers in September due to a lost contract.

SCR Medical Transportation reported the mass layoffs to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity on July 31.

The move will impact a total of 241 employees, and the layoffs will take place Sept. 30, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification report.

"Our 10-year contract with Pace Suburban Bus to support their call center expires at the end of September and has been rebid to another company,” SCR vice president of operations Kristin Persu said in a statement to the Journal Star. “In compliance with rules and regulations, we have issued notice to employees regarding end-of-contract protocols. To support employees during the contract transition, SCR Transportation has shared hiring information and application resources for opportunities with the new contractor.”
