Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle is back in action.

Marvel's first *The Punisher: One Last Kill* trailer arrived Thursday with an extensive look at the upcoming Disney+ streaming special.

The last we saw Bernthal's Punisher, he was busting out of a cage in the detainment facility run by Mayor Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) in *Daredevil: Born Again* season 1. Led by Charlie Cox, that show is currently in the midst of its second season, sans Bernthal since his character is off on his own adventures in this new TV event.

The timelines of *Daredevil: Born Again* season 2 and *The Punisher: One Last Kill* overlap. "As Frank Castle searches for meaning beyond revenge, an unexpected force pulls him back into the fight," a new plot description reads.

Reinaldo Marcus Green directed the special and co-wrote it with Bernthal, with the two having worked together on *We Own This City*.

A brief glimpse of Bernthal's Frank was featured as an ending tag to a recent *Daredevil* trailer, but Thursday's trailer marks our first extensive look.

Jason R. Moore, who acted opposite Bernthal in Netflix's original *The Punisher* series, returns as Curtis Hoyle, the former Navy SARC who went on to help veterans suffering from PTSD. "Talk to me," he tells Frank amid footage of bloodshed, though it appears he's a hallucination. "Tell me what's going on."

Additional scenes depict the grave site and memory of Lisa Barbara Castle, Frank's daughter, whose death still weighs heavily on him.

All those involved in the Punisher TV event have largely remained tight-lipped over what the actual story specifics entail. "The less I say the better," Brad Winderbaum, the head of Marvel Television, told ** in December."The *Punisher* TV special really does connect into the time and place that *Daredevil: Born Again* season 2 takes place," he added.

"I went through the process," Bernthal told EW separately. "I went in, I pitched, I gave an outline before I even put pen to page, and I felt like I did not want them to just hand it to me. They had read some of my writing, asked to come and do a pitch, so I did. And they've held me accountable to every step along the way. I really want to earn this and I really want this to be good."

The story he laid out, Bernthal added, was "really special."

"It's the visceral, psychologically complex, unforgiving, no-holds-barred version of Frank where he's going to turn his back to the audience," the actor said. "And nothing is easy and all violence has a cost, and we're going to see that cost. I'm grateful that they're letting me go to the places that I really want to go."

Bernthal will also return as Frank Castle in this year's theatrical release *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* in which he tangos with Tom Holland's web-slinger.

"We are communicating a lot with the team on *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* to make sure that there's coherence there," Winderbaum said of the *Daredevil: Born Again* production. "We don't want to spoil anything, but it very much exists in the same world and it is important."

*The Punisher: One Last Kill* will premiere on Disney+ May 12, one week after the *Daredevil: Born Again* season 2 finale. Watch the trailer above.
