Kate Middleton took part in a wholesome hobby during a public appearance on September 24.
The Princess of Wales, who’s an avid lover of nature, got her hands dirty while gardening at The Forward Trust.
Kate shares her passion for gardening with King Charles and her kids.
Kate Middleton put her green thumb in action while stepping out to support a deeply personal cause. Just days after making a dazzling red carpet appearance at the Digger premiere in London, the Princess of Wales ditched her glamorous gown and heirloom jewelry for gardening gloves as she got her hands dirty for a meaningful initiative.

On September 23, Kate marked Addiction Awareness Week with a visit to The Forward Trust in Southend, where she took part in one of the center’s Forward Growing planting sessions. The weekly gatherings encourage attendees to connect with nature and foster their well-being while also helping them develop gardening skills.
Kate has been passionate about working with families impacted by addiction since 2012, when she picked Action on Addiction as one of her first royal patronages. Her latest nature-based initiative highlights the healing properties of green spaces and community projects in addiction recovery.

Kate, who looked ready for fall in black cropped trousers, a dark brown top, and a houndstooth blazer, showed off her iconic sapphire and diamond engagement ring as she planted tiny seedlings and mingled with fellow attendees. The beaming royal styled her chestnut brown hair in voluminous curls and accessorized with gold earrings and a gold chain link necklace.

Like her father-in-law King Charles, Kate is an avid gardener. Prince William previously revealed that his wife “does all the gardening” at home, although he shared that Kate was also trying to get him into the hobby as a way to bond with his dad. “I really like it, but I have no idea what I’m doing,” he confessed during a 2021 visit to Wales.

Meanwhile, Kate revealed that she was passing on her love of gardening to her children during a 2017 appearance. The royal, who was pregnant at the time with Prince Louis, helped children plant winter bulbs as she shared, “I’ve got such fond memories of being in the garden and being outside from my own childhood, and I’m sharing that with my own children, George and Charlotte, at the moment.”
Kate previously opened up about how she found solace in nature and outdoor activities during her cancer battle. Last year, she launched a video series called Mother Nature, where she celebrated the changing seasons with personal reflections.
“I find it a very spiritual and very intense emotional reconnection, I suppose, [being in] these environments,” she said in one clip. “Not everyone has that same relationship, perhaps, with nature. But it is so meaningful for me as a place to balance and find a sense of peace and reconnection in what is otherwise a very busy world.”
