Kate Middleton put another longstanding royal cause in the spotlight during a recent outing. The latest Kate Middleton charity appearance saw the Princess of Wales join a gardening session at The Forward Trust in Southend-on-Sea. The visit marked Addiction Awareness Week and showed how outdoor activities can support recovery.
Kate Middleton’s recent visit to an addiction charity draws attention
According to People, Kate Middleton visited The Forward Trust’s Southend center on Sept. 24. There, she learned about Forward Growing, a community program that uses gardening to build confidence and practical skills.
Kate did more than observe the activity. She joined a potting session and got her hands dirty while working with plants. Meanwhile, staff explained how time outdoors can support people through addiction recovery.
The Forward Trust launched Forward Growing with Garon Park earlier this year. The project runs weekly gardening sessions and aims to create a permanent recovery garden. Additionally, the outing came during the charity’s Big Addiction Conversation campaign. The initiative encourages more open discussions about addiction and stigma.

Kate Middleton has supported addiction-related causes for more than a decade. She chose Action on Addiction as one of her first royal patronages in 2012. After it merged with The Forward Trust, she became the charity’s patron in 2021.
Earlier this month, Kate returned to the Royal Marsden Hospital to meet patients. In June, the Princess completed the National Three Peaks Challenge to support the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
Still, Thursday’s outing centered on recovery and community support. Kate spoke with people involved in Forward Trust programs and saw how practical activities can create structure and connection.
Ultimately, the latest Kate Middleton charity outing showed a hands-on side to her royal work. By joining the gardening session, she helped draw attention to a cause she has supported throughout much of her royal life.
