Meghan Markle has pushed back on claims she discussed her recent reunion with King Charles at a California dinner party attended by Martha Stewart.

Stewart had said the Duchess of Sussex was "talking about" her visit to the UK during the gathering, which reportedly took place shortly after Meghan returned from seeing Prince Harry's father.

"I had dinner with Meghan Markle the other night. We were both guests at a dinner party in California. And she had just gotten back from the palace," Stewart told People magazine before she exposed Meghan for discussing Charles.

"I didn't talk to her really more than to say a couple of words, but I know she was talking about it." "I know she was," she added.

But a source close to Meghan denied that version of events, saying the duchess did not discuss the visit to King Charles at all. "Meghan was asked by someone else about her European vacation and said it was nice, and that was the extent of it. I think she must have been confused," the insider said, suggesting Stewart may not have been close enough to hear the conversation clearly.

The source also noted that Meghan and Stewart were not seated near each other during the dinner.

The Sussexes' recent UK trip included a private family reunion with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House. Reports at the time claimed Prince Harry had agreed not to speak publicly about the visit and that no photos would be released.

Meghan later shared moments from the trip on Instagram, but none appeared to be taken at Highgrove. Despite the disagreement over what was said at the dinner, the source insisted Meghan still admires Stewart, describing her as a "fan" of the lifestyle figure.

Stewart's comments have drawn attention in part because of the overlap in their careers. Meghan recently launched her own cooking and lifestyle show, With Love, Meghan, prompting comparisons between the duchess and the longtime homemaking brand founder.

Stewart addressed that shift directly, questioning how naturally Meghan fits into the space. "If you're an actress, it's hard to then transition to a princess and then from a princess into a homemaking guru on a television show," Stewart said. "It doesn't sort of follow. So go from there."

She has previously raised similar concerns about credibility, stressing the importance of expertise in the field. "Authenticity, to me, is everything, and to be authentic and knowledgeable about your subject matter is extremely important," Stewart told Yahoo Lifestyle.

Regardless, Stewart has also said she does not "mind" the idea of having successors in the lifestyle space.
