Meghan Markle has faced criticism following a recent video posted to celebrate her 45th birthday.

The footage, captured by Prince Harry, shows the Duchess of Sussex dancing around a kitchen island amid happy birthday balloons at their Montecito, California, residence.

Broadcaster Rupert Bell has suggested that Meghan's recent post was designed to showcase how "fun" her life is with Prince Harry, 41, in the US.

Speaking on TalkTV with Ian Collins, he stated: "I think it's their desperate need to always seem to be posting how wonderfully fun they are.

"There are pictures of that, a clip of Meghan jumping into a swimming pool. Their life is just full of fun. I suppose people do that. Is it quite normal? I don't know. I'm not one for dancing around the kitchen, but then I'm an old geezer."

He further indicated that Meghan's video might have been a reaction to the recent media attention given to Prince William, Princess Catherine and their three children following their appearance at the Commonwealth Games.

Rupert added: "We saw the pictures of the Waleses and their children plastered everywhere when they went to the Commonwealth Games."

"I always knew that there was going to be some moment when she would respond. It is her 45th birthday and of course, in the royal family, photos do come, certainly of the Waleses.

"We saw pictures of George when he was 13, but why do we need to see pictures of the Sussexes to this extent to commemorate her 45th birthday?" He continued: "It feels like they're showing that they're one big happy family and everything is alright in their world."

Rupert subsequently argued that Meghan had overstepped boundaries that Princess Kate, 44, would never cross by releasing footage from inside her residence with Prince Harry.

He continued: "They haven't had great publicity of late. The trip to Britain didn't go down well. He lost the court case. They're having to find a way of regrouping.

"The one saving grace from these pictures is that we haven't got any more pictures of the children from back views. They talk about the famous privacy, but here they are filming stuff in their home, which you never see the Waleses do.

"We don't suddenly see pictures of the Princess of Wales in her kitchen. There are definitely lines of what they do. It's going to be very interesting how the Sussexes go forward."
