Meghan Markle has sent a strong "message" to the Princess of Wales following speculation that King Charles has extended an invitation to her and Prince Harry to visit Balmoral, according to a well-informed source.

The insider, speaking to Closer magazine, suggested the Duchess of Sussex would view any potential royal reunion in Scotland as a significant triumph.

The source told reporter Millie Payne: "To Meghan, this feels hugely symbolic. There was a time when it seemed unthinkable that she would ever be invited back to Balmoral or Buckingham Palace.

It comes as King Charles' private plea over Archie and Lilibet before his reunion with Harry and Meghan emerged.

"It's Meghan's revenge on Kate, in a way. Her message to Kate is, 'You'll never win, and you can't keep us out.' Meghan believes she now holds all the cards."

The disclosure comes as speculation mounts that the King has asked his younger son and daughter-in-law to join the family at the Scottish residence this month, before Harry's scheduled return for the WellChild Awards in September.

It would represent the first in-person encounter between the Sussexes and the Prince and Princess of Wales since the late Queen's funeral in 2022.

While Meghan, 45, reportedly feels victorious, Kate is said to be considerably more cautious.

The same insider told Closer that "Kate feels like the Royal Family is being hijacked" and the last thing she wants is a "showdown with Meghan."

The couple's children, Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, accompanied Harry during a trip to Highgrove last month to meet with the King and Queen Camilla.

A potential Balmoral invitation would signal a significant move toward reconciliation following the Sussexes' withdrawal from royal responsibilities in 2020 and their move to California.

Tensions have persisted since their departure. Harry and Meghan's Oprah interview, the duke's memoir Spare, and their Netflix series made multiple allegations against senior royals, including claims of a physical altercation between the brothers.

Persistent reports of friction between Kate and Meghan - particularly concerning bridesmaid dresses at the Sussexes' 2018 wedding - have never completely faded, despite Meghan's assertion that it was Kate who apologized.

Meghan has been sharing family photos from Portugal and Althorp, the Spencer family estate, where the late Princess Diana was raised.

Meanwhile, King Charles' reason for keeping William and Kate in the dark about the Harry and Meghan reunion was exposed.
