Famous Naked Eyes vocalist Peter Byrne died Sept. 14 at age 74.
Byrne belted out some of the most recognizable, nostalgic hits of the '80s with the band Naked Eyes, including "Always Something There to Remind Me" and "Promises, Promises." The songs became hits of the era, with melodies and lyrics that remain instantly recognizable decades later.
The band's impact stretched far beyond their initial chart success.
The band's manager said Byrne, known for both his vocals and his songwriting skills, died peacefully in Los Angeles after a brief illness, according to Billboard. His official cause of death was not disclosed.
Byrne began his career in the music industry in the mid-1970s. He joined forces with Jeff Starrs in 1976 before joining the band Studio in 1977.
Byrne founded Naked Eyes with Rob Fisher in 1982 — and their success was swift. Their self-titled debut album charted on the Billboard 200.

"Always Something There to Remind Me," their hit single from the debut album, was the band's biggest hit of all-time, reaching the No. 8 spot on the Billboard Hot 100.
"Promises, Promises," written jointly by Byrne and Fisher, reached No. 11 in 1983.

Despite their undeniable radio success, Fisher and Byrne only played together for a couple of years, and never toured together. Fisher died in 1999.
Byrne is survived by his siblings Eileen, Sandy, Carol and Steve; his three children, Merlin, Dylan and Chloe; and his ex-wife, Elena.
A private family service will be held in his honor.
