NFL star Cooper Kupp discussed his time at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding during an episode of HBO’s Hard Knocks.
The Seattle Seahawks wide receiver thought the invite was “a joke” at first.
Swift and Kelce got married at Madison Square Garden on July 3.
Cooper Kupp was one of the lucky ones (forgive the pun) to cop an invite to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding — but he doesn’t know why.
“I saw Tony [Romo] at the Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce wedding,” the Seattle Seahawks wide receiver told teammate Sam Darnold during Tuesday’s premiere episode of the team’s Hard Knocks docuseries.
Kupp started to say something about Romo when Darnold interrupted.

“Wait, what?” the quarterback asked. “He was at the wedding? Did you go?”
Kupp said he did, which prompted Darnold to respond, “Oh, let’s go!” He was quick to ask further questions about the high-profile nuptials. “When did you get — how do you know him?” Darnold wondered.

“Bro, when I got the invitation, I thought it was a joke,” Kupp admitted. “I just would’ve imagined that there’s a laundry list of people that just knew him better.”
Darnold responded, “Yeah, well, they invited a thousand people.”

Kupp said that “it was cool” overall as the conversation came to an end. It was never revealed what Kupp wanted to say about Romo, who was recently arrested in Wisconsin on suspicion of OWI. (Entertainment Weekly confirmed on July 31 that the retired football player was put “on leave” from his role at CBS Sports in the wake of the incident.)
Hard Knocks is an HBO docuseries produced by NFL Films and has followed one professional football team through training camp each seasons since 2001, and this year is the Seahawks. The team’s training camp started late last month, weeks after Swift and Kelce tied the knot.

The couple wed on July 3 at New York City’s famed Madison Square Garden. A billboard outside of the venue that night read, “JUST&T MARRIED!” confirming that the two had officially exchanged their vows.
Beside Kupp, a barrage of NFL players were in attendance that night, including Rob “Gronk” Gronkowski, who wasn’t shy when it came to sharing an inside look at the wedding with reporters.
“It was so cool to see it live, to be able to have a good time on the dance floor and to mingle with so many people in my industry, but also so many people in other industries,” Gronkowski told PEOPLE last month. He attended the wedding alongside girlfriend Camille Kostek. The retired NFL star’s former New England Patriots teammates Tom Brady and Julian Edelman were also in attendance.
“For how big it was, it was very intimate still,” he said of the wedding, which really did have a 1,000-person guest count. “There’s no doubt about it.”
