Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey “talk almost every day” following their split over a decade ago.

Cannon revealed that Carey was “my greatest friend and my greatest teacher.”
Nick Cannon still cherishes his bond with ex-wife Mariah Carey.
The Wild ’N Out host revealed that he and the elusive chanteuse maintain a close co-parenting relationship and speak regularly. Cannon and Carey, who were married from 2008 to 2016, share 15-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe.
“We were able to, kind of, move on and be amicable and be the best parents we can,” Cannon told Us Weekly in an interview published on Thursday. “And, like, to this day, man, we talk almost every day or every other day or, you know, just specifically just about the kids.”
While the two split over a decade ago, Cannon still has reverence for his ex, who he hailed as his “greatest teacher.” He shared a glimpse at the words of wisdom Carey imparted to him.
“I always say Mariah Carey was my greatest friend and my greatest teacher,” he continued. “What I learned most from her is how to hold on to what’s true and create your own spaces, without letting outside energy infiltrate. I’ve never seen somebody operate on their own frequency, and it’s always so positive.”

He admitted that he felt inspired by her, as she has been able to bounce back from hardships and “block out negative energy.” Although it was reported that their divorce got contentious at times, Cannon emphasized that it wasn’t “messy.”

Nowadays, Cannon, who is also father to 10 younger children with five other women, has been learning to navigate different parenting styles with the mothers of his kids. He admitted that he’s too much of a “cool” dad at times.
“We gotta operate as a unit, but it’s definitely departmentalized. Every mother parents differently, but when it comes to me, I’m non confrontational, which isn’t always a good thing,” he confessed.

As for his eldest kids, Cannon and Carey are already starting the college planning process. In fact, Monroe has expressed interest in following her parents’ footsteps and entering the entertainment industry.
“She wants to either go to Pepperdine or NYU in their theater program,” Cannon revealed. “She can be whatever she wants to be, you know what I mean, but the fact that she wants to go in that space, I’m like, ‘Yo, find the love of it first. You don’t necessarily want to be a movie star. You want to be a great actress.’”
