Ryan Murphy planned to revive Ariana Grande’s Chanel #2 from Scream Queens in the latest season of American Horror Story.
“I haven’t given up. I love her,” Murphy said of making the crossover collaboration happen in the future.
American Horror Story: 13 premieres on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 9 p.m. ET on FX and Hulu.
Ryan Murphy had a scary good crossover for Ariana Grande before she exited American Horror Storyseason 13.
The executive producer extraordinaire revealed that the singer was set to revive her role as Chanel #2 from the first season of Scream Queens for the latest chapter of the AHS anthology series. However, her Eternal Sunshine tour dates interfered with his filming schedule.
“It was funny because at one point I was going to have the Scream Queens come on to this season, but Ariana was touring and I couldn’t make it work,” Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter.
“But she was like, ‘I still want to do it! I just can’t be on tour.’ So I was like, ‘All right, let me think of it.’”

The Emmy winner added that though the crossover didn’t happen this time around, he’s still hopeful that it can come to fruition in the future.
“She warned me in advance that it was gonna be really hard to schedule, and the weekend we had to shoot it, she was touring, but I said, ‘Okay, I’ll bump it down the road,’ so I haven’t given up. I love her.”
Murphy also mentioned that Scream Queens stars Grande, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, and Glen Powell have all expressed interest in reviving the show. “Emma [Roberts] and I were talking about that yesterday. You know, they want me to do it. I don’t know.”
Murphy previously spoke about Grande being attached to the show and her eventual exit, which happened weeks before she announced in early August that she was “taking a step back” from public life.

“I had an idea, and I came to her and she, very immediately, said, ‘I’m not sure because I think I’m going on tour,’” he recalled in August, per The Hollywood Reporter.
“I don’t think the tour had been announced, and she had obviously just finished the Wicked movie. So when it came time to do that episode, I called her up, and she was like, ‘I don’t know how I’m going to juggle the tour with this.’ And I said, ‘Okay, if you can’t, we can push to another season.’ She said, ‘Great.’”
However, the collaboration didn’t work out. “You have to be respectful,” Murphy said.

Murphy also mentioned that Grande “loved the experience” of being on Scream Queens. “People love her in that show. So I will always work with her.”
“I love her, and I support her. It was a very big swing, but I might bring that back for another season, per Ariana’s availability. I think the world of her,” he concluded.
