Seth Meyers wasted little time getting stuck into Donald Trump on Mondayâs (November 17) episode of Late Night, following the Presidentâs calls for him to be fired over the weekend.
On Mondayâs episode, Meyers aired a clip of a news reporter discussing Trumpâs Truth Social post, in which he slammed the late-night host and said NBC should fire him immediately. âNBCâs Seth Meyers is suffering from an incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS),â Trump wrote in his post.
He continued, âHe was viewed last night in an uncontrollable rage, likely due to the fact that his âshowâ is a Ratings DISASTER. Aside from everything else, Meyers has no talent, and NBC should fire him, IMMEDIATELY!â
âYou guys! They said my name on TV!â Meyers responded mockingly. âItâs not often you hear the name Seth Meyers on TV before midnight. Now, as Iâve said before, I prefer to handle these situations the way you handle an angry driver who honks and flips you off on the highway â you just ignore them â unless youâre in New Jersey, then, technically, thatâs a marriage proposal.â
The comedian noted that âbeing attacked this weekend by the President doesnât make [him] special,â as he was one of many on Trumpâs âs*** list,â including Christopher Wray, James Comey, Indiana Republicans, Thomas Massie, Rand Paul, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and former President Joe Biden.
Meyers then pointed out that the only person Trump didnât seem to have a problem with was Sean Connery, citing a 2008 article the President shared on social media in which the late James Bond actor praised Trumpâs golf course.
âI think itâs a bad sign when the most positive thing someone said about you this weekend was from an article 17 years old by a man who died five years ago,â Meyers quipped.
The NBC host added that he takes âno issue with the President voicing his displeasure with my show: That is his right, and on a lot of nights, heâs got a point!â
However, one point he did have a problem with was the wording of Trumpâs post, particularly the phrase, âHe was viewed last night in an uncontrollable rage.â
âWhatâs with the passive voice, my man? I was viewed by who? Was it you, who viewed me? And did you view me exhibiting an uncontrollable rage, or did viewing me send you into an uncontrollable rage?â Meyers asked, adding, âIt sounds like something a dowager countess says in a Victorian murder-mystery while sheâs staring out the drawing room windows.â
Meyers concluded by saying he couldnât believe he âfinally has something in common with Marjorie Taylor Greene,â the Republican Georgia Representative who has been on the receiving end of Trumpâs attacks this past week. âYou know, Trumpâs really bringing the country together. The only difference is, she got a cool nickname: âMarjorie Traitor Greeneâ is way cooler than âMarble Mouth Meyers.ââ
