NEW YORK — Supergirl is here to save the world. But first, she's got to nurse this hangover.
Warner Bros. has just unveiled the action-packed first teaser for "Supergirl" (in theaters June 26, 2026), which comes hot on the heels of last summer's "Superman" starring David Corenswet.
In the trailer, Kara Zor-El (Milly Alcock) throws back shots and dances alone on her birthday, as she drunkenly assures herself that "23 will be the best year yet." But we also see the Daughter of Krypton (and Clark Kent's cousin) step into her own as a hero: deploying her heat vision and superhuman strength as she topples bad guys and soars into space.
She also lays out a key difference between her and Superman: "He sees the good in everyone – and I see the truth."
Warner Bros. invited a swath of journalists and influencers to preview the trailer on Dec. 7 at a party at a Lower East Side hotel, which was fittingly lit up in blue and red neon. DC Studios head James Gunn was on hand to introduce the footage, alongside Alcock and director Craig Gillespie ("Cruella").
Alcock, who watched the teaser for the first time along with the crowd, said it was "crazy" and "so weird" to finally get a glimpse of the movie. "It's really surreal seeing everyone's work come together," the Australian newcomer said.

Gillespie and Gunn went on to tease that "Supergirl" is "really surprising" and nothing like "a typical superhero movie."
"She's got a lot of baggage and a lot of demons coming into this, which is very different than where Superman is in his life," Gillespie said. "Having Milly play that and all the complexity of that and do it in a very human way, where you actually have empathy for her and the dance of the humor – it was such a gift."
Gunn added that "so many times, female superheroes are so perfect, and she's not that at all. She's very imperfect, which male superheroes have allowed to be for a while."

Alcock first caught Gunn's attention in HBO's "Game of Thrones" prequel "House of the Dragon." "She really has this swagger," he said.
"That's so lame," Alcock teased. "But it's so sweet."
