It's a nostalgic Christmas for Taylor Momsen.
The actress' childhood role in 2000's How the Grinch Stole Christmas remains one of her most iconic to date. Ahead of this year's holiday, she walked down memory lane by dusting off — and attempting to rewear — one of Cindy Lou Who's festive costumes.
In a video shared on Dec. 22, Momsen — who is now 32 and starred in the Christmas film when she was 7 — tried to slip back into her "real Cindy costume" for a photo shoot. The red and green Peter Pan collar gingham dress appeared to have the same whimsy it did on screen two decades ago, especially with the skirt's plated decor still intact.

The try-on didn't go as planned since Momsen couldn't entirely fit into the festive frock, but with the help of her stylist and costumer, Lindsey Hartman, she was able to turn it into an off-the-shoulder minidress worn with a hooded cape and boots.
"25 years later…it still (kind of) fits," Momsen captioned the post. "What a surreal holiday season."
Earlier this year, Momsen reimagined the movie's memorable soundtrack by releasing her own version of "Where Are You Christmas?" on her EP, Taylor Momsen's Pretty Reckless Christmas, released on Oct. 31. The modern classic holiday ballad, cowritten by Mariah Carey, was first performed by Momsen when she played Cindy.

This season, Momsen also got the chance to reconnect with her former costar Jim Carrey, who famously played the titular Christmas-hating Dr. Seuss character.
Just shy of The Grinch's 25th anniversary, the two reunited at the Nov. 8 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Momsen later told PEOPLE that the experience was "absolutely insane, kismet, universally aligned, mind-blowing and amazing."

“Just seeing him again was the most wonderful thing that could have possibly happened. The crazy thing is that he was the same guy. Like, I didn’t know what to expect because it’s been 25 years," she said.
“When we actually saw each other and hugged and, you know, embraced, it was like this overwhelming, overwhelmingly warm feeling of ‘I know you like that,’ ” she added. “He felt like home to me is what I keep saying, and it’s just the most accurate way to describe it. It was amazing.”
Looking back on her time in Whoville, Momsen has admitted that her recollections weren't always so merry and bright, particularly because she was "made fun of relentlessly" by her peers.
"Every time I would start a new school or go somewhere else, I don't even think the kids knew my name. I was just 'Grinch girl,' " Momsen shared on the Podcrushed podcast in 2023. "Not even the character name [Cindy Lou Who], just Grinch girl. I got used to it, but it was alienating."
