Vanessa Hudgens is grieving the loss of her beloved dog, Darla.
The High School Musical alum, 37, shared the news in an emotional Instagram post on Tuesday, Feb. 10, revealing that she recently made the difficult decision to say goodbye to her longtime companion.
“Anyone that knows me knew Darla. She went everywhere with me. Traveled the world. Was there for me every single step of the way,” Hudgens wrote on social media. “She was the smartest little lady I’ve ever known. I couldn’t have asked for a better dog.”

The actress continued, “I am beyond heart broken today. Putting her down was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do, but her little body was failing her and it was her time. I already miss the pitter patter of her little paws in the house.”
Hudgens ended the tribute with a message to fellow pet owners: “If you have your own fur baby, squeeze them extra for me. Rest in peace, my sweet girl.”
Among those offering support in the comments was Julianne Hough, 37, who wrote, “Wrapping you in so much love - I hope Darla is with Lexi and Harley running around in their spiritual rainbow garden watching over us. Nothing can prepare you for the grief, but know that she served her purpose and is now looking after your family with love and protection - love you, Darla.”

In a second post, Hudgens reflected on the special bond Darla shared with her husband, former professional baseball player Cole Tucker, whom she married in December 2023 in Tulum, Mexico.
"Darla didn't like men. I think she was abused by one when she was a wittle ting before I met her, but the moment she met my husband, she was in love," Hudgens wrote. "Cuddled up on him and trusted him immediately. I knew from that point he was my guy."

The star added that Darla played a meaningful role in their wedding day. “She walked down the aisle in our wedding and watched our vows intently. She was so proud. I’ll never forget it."
