Prior to the 2026-27 season, ESPN revealed a list ranking the top-100 NBA players. After finishing with 52 wins a season ago, the Houston Rockets had four players recognized on the list.
91. Fred VanVleet
Despite missing the entire 2025-26 campaign due to injury, former Wichita State guard Fred VanVleet barely cracked the top 100. In 133 games with the Rockets to date, VanVleet holds averages of 15.9 points, 6.9 assists, 3.8 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 0.6 blocks in 35.2 minutes per game. After mixed results from the point guard position last season, VanVleet should steady Houston's offense.
31. Amen Thompson
A former No. 4 overall pick, Amen Thompson is one of the league's most athletic players, not to mention one of the toughest defenders. Last season, Thompson posted career-high numbers in scoring (18.3), assists (5.3) and steals (1.5) to go along with 7.8 rebounds and 0.6 blocks per game. Although he didn't make an All-Defensive Team, Thompson finished eighth in Defensive Player of the Year Award voting.
30. Alperen Sengun
Right above Thompson is his teammate, two-time All-Star Alperen Sengun. In his fifth season last year, the Turkish big man averaged 20.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 1.2 steals and a career-high 1.1 blocks. With moderate improvements over the last three seasons, Rockets fans are hoping to see a true breakout campaign from Sengun in his age-24 season.

13. Kevin Durant
In spite of entering his 19th NBA season, Kevin Durant remains feared as a scorer. In 18 years to this point, Durant has yet to average less than 20 points per game. While his speed and athleticism have declined, Durant's efficient jump shooting has remained. Considering this, his lengthy frame and exceptional IQ, Durant could easily lead the Rockets in scoring once more.
