If you missed Wicked: For Good in theaters, now's your chance to catch it on streaming. Well, not quite "now," but soon. The second half of director Jon M. Chu's adaptation of the stage musical (in turn adapted from the novel by Gregory Maguire) was a box office hit when it launched last year, grossing $527 million worldwide. While that's a step down from the first film's global haul of $758 million, the movie musical was still a big hit worthy of its Wizard of Oz origins.

For fans who want to watch it again at home or who couldn't get around to theaters to catch it there, Wicked: For Good will make its Peacock streaming debut on March 20. If you somehow managed to avoid both movies to this point, both movies combined make for one heck of a double feature.
Wicked stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, better known to Wizard of Oz fans as The Wicked Witch of the West (hence the title), and Ariana Grande as Glinda (or is it Galinda?), "The Good Witch." The films are a wonderful origin story for The Wizard of Oz and tie into that classic story (and its legendary 1939 movie) in a variety of ways, both obvious and shockingly unexpected.
If you can't get enough of Wizard of Oz prequels, may I also recommend the oft-overlooked Oz: The Great and Powerful? Directed by Sam Raimi and released in 2013, this movie is an alternative to Wicked that follows the origins of the Wizard of Oz himself, though its storyline is incompatible with that of Wicked. It's currently streaming on Disney Plus. Alas, there's no wider "Wizard of Oz Cinematic Universe."
In fact, due to rights issues, both Oz: The Great and Powerful and Wicked are technically based on the original book of The Wizard of Oz, rather than the 1939 movie. That's why Dorothy's magic shoes are silver instead of red. The iconic "ruby slippers" were created for the movie and thus can't be used in adaptations of the book. There's a fun legal fact for you!
