The third season of the Apple TV comedy-drama concluded on April 8, and while this might be the end of Shrinking's current story, there is a new chapter ahead for the show and its characters.
In a 2023 Variety interview, Shrinking creator Bill Lawrence spoke about how the series was pitched as a three-season arc, with themes of grief, forgiveness and ultimately, moving forward.
"Part of the fun for me in doing shows with, like, Jason Segel and Harrison Ford, is that you can tell actors that you’ve always wanted to work with, 'If you give me three seasons, that’s fine if you want to split.' So all I can tell you is that all the gang that we roped in for this one was down for doing that," Lawrence told the outlet.

Yes, Shrinking is returning for season 4.
Apple TV renewed the series on Jan. 27, the day before the third season premiered.
Shrinking has been nominated for nine Emmys total across its first two seasons. Segel and Ford were nominated for their work in season 2, as were their costars, Jessica Williams and Michael Urie. The comedy-drama also scored a nod for Outstanding Comedy Series for its second season.

Season 4 of Shrinking will feature a new story because the series was originally conceived as a three-season arc, according to Lawrence.
"Season finale and end of this three season story next week. Hope you dig it. (Excited to start completely new story next year. Feels scary/risky/fun)," Lawrence posted on X on April 4.
Plot details for the upcoming season have not been revealed, but there will be a time jump for the characters.

"I think people will feel when they come back to this show that it’s a completely different story," Lawrence told Variety about season 4. "We feel that the characters of this show have enough stuff going on in their life that we were interested in seeing what a new story for these characters looks like."
"We’re already deep into the writers room, in the fourth season, so I’m lucky enough to know what happens. And I think people will dig it," he continued, adding, "People shouldn’t be surprised if there’s a time jump and it feels like we’re telling a completely different story."
Which cast members are returning for Shrinking season 4?

The cast of Shrinking does not seem to be shrinking in numbers.
According to his April 4 X post, Lawrence said the upcoming fourth season will have "the EXACT same cast (that's why we are doing it, we love each other)."
He also clarified in another post on X that the returning cast members will be playing the same characters.
According to Variety, the area that includes Pasadena, Altadena and Northeast Los Angeles will remain the show's setting.
The season 4 cast has not been confirmed, but the series is currently led by Segel and Ford, with the ensemble including Williams, Urie, Christa Miller, Luke Tennie, Lukita Maxwell and Ted McGinley.
